Mobile Market Season: First weekend in June - Last weekend in October

WHAT WE DO
Twin Sisters Mobile Market is a 501(c)3 nonprofit mobile farmers market. Our custom mobile market truck delivers farm-fresh produce to four underserved Whatcom County “food desert” locations. Our mission is to connect our community to high-quality, local food, and to strengthen the small Whatcom farms that grow it. TSMM is a membership organization, governed by a Board of Directors composed of at least 50% farmer-members. Our membership of over 18 small, local businesses includes farmers, ranchers, fishers, and food processors.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Executive Director (ED) provides leadership for Twin Sisters Mobile Market’s strategy, operations, fundraising, and community relationships. Working closely with the Board of Directors, the ED advances TSM’s mission, ensures financial and organizational sustainability, supervises the Market Manager, and serves as the organization’s primary ambassador.
This is a part-time role ideal for an organized, relationship-driven leader with a passion for food access, local agriculture, and community resilience. There is potential for this position to grow into a full-time role over time, dependent on organizational growth and the Executive Director’s success in fundraising and grant development.
Core Duties & Responsibilities:
Organizational Leadership & Strategy
Create and lead implementation of TSM’s annual work plan and strategic priorities.
Evaluate programs and partnerships for mission alignment, equity, and impact.
Gather and incorporate feedback from farmers, customers, and community partners.
Fundraising & Financial Management
Lead fundraising for operations, programs, and special projects.
Write grants and complete required reporting.
Secure business sponsorships and cultivate and maintain donor relationships.
Develop and manage the annual budget.
Board & Governance Support
Maintain clear and consistent communication with the Board of Directors.
Prepare monthly ED reports and support board meetings and committees.
Implement Board-approved policies.
Communications & Community Engagement
Serve as TSM’s spokesperson and public ambassador.
Oversee organizational communications, marketing, and media outreach.
Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations, agencies, and food system networks; attend relevant community meetings.
Staff & Operations Oversight
Supervise and support the Market Manager.
Ensure effective systems, compliance, and high-quality market operations.
Equity & Inclusion
Integrate equity and inclusion into programs, partnerships, and organizational practices.
The ideal candidate is a self-directed leader with strong budgeting, financial analysis, and fundraising skills who is energized by community-based work and comfortable balancing strategy with hands-on execution. They are confident using financial data to inform big-picture decisions about organizational direction and long-term sustainability. The ideal candidate brings experience with nonprofit budgeting, grant writing, sponsorship development, and revenue planning, along with a strong commitment to food access, equity, and local agriculture. This person is organized, adaptable, and collaborative — able to manage competing priorities in a part-time role, communicate clearly with the board about financial performance and opportunities, and represent the organization with warmth, credibility, and confidence in fundraising and public settings.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, food systems, or a related field.
2–4 years of nonprofit leadership, program management, or development experience preferred.
Strong communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
Experience or strong interest in food access, local food systems, and agriculture.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a seasonal environment.
Willingness to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
Preferred:
Knowledge of local/regional agricultural systems, food justice work, and food safety practices
Experience managing or implementing grant-funded programs
Experience executing contracts and completing data-based program reporting
Comfort with Squarespace, Mailchimp, Totilpay, Square, and/or QuickBooks
Multilingual (especially Spanish) a plus
Compensation:
Part-time, hourly position at $32 per hour, averaging 20 hours per week
Healthcare stipend offered at $100/month
Mileage reimbursed at $0.67 per mile for duties outside regular work sites.
