LOCAL PRODUCE RECOVERY program

Our Local Produce Recovery Program allows Twin Sisters Mobile Market to pay our 18+ local farmer members for everything they send to our markets, regardless of whether it sells or not.

Local Produce Recovery Program funding compensates the market for any produce that doesn’t sell on market days — and Twin Sisters Mobile Market diverts that high-quality produce to Whatcom County food banks for free distribution to food bank clients. This program is a win-win-win: It removes the financial risk for our local farmers and for our nonprofit market, eliminates food waste, reduces food transportation miles, and gets high-quality, locally grown food into the hands of community members who need it most.

We proudly donate produce to The Foothills Food Bank, which distributes healthy, nutritious food to more than 250 rural Whatcom County families and individuals every week.

The Foothills Food Bank also offers home delivery service for homebound seniors and other people who aren’t able to come to the food bank.

Their Winter and Spring Pantry Program provides supplemental kid-friendly snacks and meals for low-income elementary school students to help prevent hunger over Winter and Spring breaks.
