WHAT WE DO
Twin Sisters Mobile Market is a 501(c)3 nonprofit mobile farmers market. Our custom mobile market truck delivers farm-fresh produce to four underserved Whatcom County “food desert” locations. Our mission is to connect our community to high-quality, local food, and to strengthen the small Whatcom farms that grow it. TSMM is a membership organization, governed by a Board of Directors composed of at least 50% farmer-members. Our membership of over 25 small, local businesses includes farmers, ranchers, fishers, and food processors.
MORE ABOUT OUR MARKETS
Our markets are designed so federal, state, and local food benefits function smoothly and with dignity. SNAP/EBT, Market Match, senior vouchers, and WIC/FMNP are central to how our customers shop. We serve neighbors — not transactions — and we treat benefit use with respect and normalcy.
Farmers harvest specifically for our markets. Customers plan their grocery week around our arrival. Consistency builds trust.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
Market Leads are in charge of one of our weekly mobile farmers markets that connects small local farms with neighbors who rely on consistent access to fresh food. This role is physical, public-facing, and systems-oriented. It requires reliability, integrity, and care.
While Market Lead positions are seasonal, 1-day-a-week positions, this is a high-responsibility role — not just another work shift. You are operating the market on your own (with help from a volunteer), problem solving in the moment, multi-tasking, and juggling many different moving parts.
Core Duties & Responsibilities:
● Arrive on time, every week. This is crucial!
● Load product at Cloud Mountain Farm Center (Everson).
● Drive a 20-ft box truck to your assigned site (1703 Birchwood Ave).
● Set up, run, and break down the market independently.
● Maintain clean, organized truck and storage spaces.
● Follow food-handling and safety standards.
● Process cash, credit, and federal, state, and local food benefit transactions confidently and without stigma.
● Restock inventory and work in varied weather conditions.
● Return inventory, clean equipment, and ensure electronics are charging.
● Communicate clearly with the Market Manager
The Ideal Candidate:
Ability to stick to a schedule and show up for your weekly market shift.
Understand that reliability is an act of care toward farmers and customers.
Take pride in organized systems and shared infrastructure.
Treat every customer with dignity — especially those using food benefits.
Stay calm when lines are long or technology glitches.
Notice what needs doing and take initiative.
Find meaning in physical, community-based work.
Have experience/knowledge on produce varieties
This is community work. We are looking for someone who wants to be part of that ecosystem!
Qualifications:
● Dependable and communicative.
● Valid driver’s license; comfortable driving a 20-ft box truck (training provided).
● Able to lift 30 lbs. repeatedly and stand most of a 9–10 hour shift.
● Comfortable working in heat, rain, or cold.
● Comfortable handling money and using a tablet-based POS system.
● Reliable transportation to/from Cloud Mountain Farm Center (Everson).
● Spanish, Russian, and/or Ukrainian language skills are a plus.
